CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel mixed and women's rifle teams will host a pair of top-20 opponents this weekend as No. 15 Jacksonville State and 17
th-ranked North Georgia travel to Charleston for a pair of matches at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
The Bulldogs, Gamecocks and Nighthawks will all compete on Saturday, Nov. 2. The day will feature one relay beginning 8:45 a.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 3, the Bulldogs and Gamecocks will square off in a head-to-head match. There will be one relay starting at 8:45 a.m.
BULLDOGS RANKED 23rd IN NATION
The Bulldogs' mixed rifle team is ranked 23
nd in the nation in this week's Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll released earlier this week. The women's team is ranked 29
th. TCU jumped from second into a tie with West Virginia for No. 1. The rest of the top 10 includes Kentucky, Air Force, Army, Akron, Navy Ole Miss, Alaska Fairbanks and Morehead State.
LAST TIME OUT
The Citadel mixed and women's rifle teams competed against No. 5 Navy Sunday morning at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. The 22
nd-ranked Bulldogs of the mixed team posted a score of 4481, while the Bulldog women recorded a 3616. The Midshipmen ended the morning with an aggregate score of 4668.
Navy swept the top seven spots in the individual aggregate scores led by
Gabriella Mayes' 1173. Senior
Alexander McAlear was the highest finishing Bulldog with an eight-place 1128. Freshman
Cameron Bates finished ninth with an 1119 and won the tiebreaker over sophomore
Emily Perkins who also fired off an 1119.
SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE STATE
Jacksonville State has competed twice so far this season. The Gamecocks took on Murray State and UT Martin on Oct. 6 in Murray, Kentucky, and finished second behind Murray State. The Gamecocks then hosted Morehead State on Oct. 26, falling 4656-4638.
The Gamecocks have been led by
Owen Goad with an 1162 and an 1161, but
Mackenzie VanPatten boasts the team's top aggregate score of 1171.
Michael Dietz has the team's fourth-highest aggregate score of 1160.
SCOUTING NORTH GEORGIA
North Georgia has competed in five matches this season, claiming top honors in three of them. The Nighthawks have competed against Morehead State, Wofford, VMI, NC State, Georgia Southern and UAB.
The Nighthawks have been led by
Kimberlee Nettes, who boasts three of the team's top five aggregate scores, including a season-best 1161.
Jayne Fraley has recorded the other two top-five scores, including a season-best 1157.
COMING UP
Following this weekend's pair of matches, the Bulldogs will have one final match for the semester before taking a break from outside competition until January. The 'Dogs will travel to Jacksonville, Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 9.
