De Jesus Hits Career Milestone In Victory Over Furman

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team bounced back from last weekend's losses with a five-set victory over conference foe Furman Friday night at McAlister Field House, and junior Sharlissa De Jesus recorded her 1,000 career-kill during the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Paladins went on three different runs and took advantage of multiple attack errors by the Bulldogs to take set one, 25-17.
  • The Citadel bounced back in set two, stringing together multiple kills in a row and putting up a couple service aces for a close 25-22 win.
  • Furman held the Bulldogs off to start the third set, jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead.
  • The 'Dogs would pull to within two, but would be unable to overcome the early lead, dropping the set 25-19.
  • Early in the fourth set momentum shifted back-and-forth between the two teams before Furman took over with two separate runs.
  • The Bulldogs came back late the fourth, taking over the lead at 20-19 and would eventually take the set without giving up the lead, 25-21.
  • Attack errors plagued the Paladins in the fifth set, leaving the Bulldogs to take advantage and go on a crucial four-point run.
  • The Bulldogs closed out the fifth set with a close, 15-13 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sharlissa De Jesus becomes the fifth Bulldog in program history to record 1,000 kills in her career.
  • De Jesus logged 21 kills to lead the team for the night, giving her a career total of 1,011 kills.
  • The junior notched her eighth double-double for the season, adding 13 digs to the Bulldogs' efforts.
  • Emma Strong put up a season-high 16 digs, nearly matching her career-high of 17.
  • Freshman Gina Delancey also had a record-high on the night with seven total blocks.
NEXT UP
The Citadel will take on UNCG for the second time this season, hosting the Spartans at McAlister Field House Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.
