‘Dogs Hold Off Spartan Attack At Home

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Bulldogs went 2-0 this weekend, closing out Saturday's match against UNCG with a, 3-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tonight's battle began early in the first set with back-and-forth points throughout with the Bulldogs pushing for a late three-point run for a, 25-20 win.
  • The Citadel jumped out to an early, 7-2 lead in the second set that included five points in a row.
  • The Spartans fought back with a five-point run midway through the set but were unable to overcome the Bulldogs momentum, dropping the set, 25-22.
  • UNCG took set three, 25-23, stifling any momentum shift that would begin to go the Bulldogs way.
  • The fourth set was packed with action as the Bulldogs and the Spartans had nine different score-tying points.
  • The Citadel battled back late the set from a four point deficit to send the game into bonus points.
  • Five kills from Sharlissa De Jesus aided in an intensity shift for the 'Dogs, finishing the match with a 31-29 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Citadel's frontline put up a wall at the net, recording a season-high 13 blocks for the night.
  • Sharlissa De Jesus recorded her ninth double-double for the year, notching a team-high 20 kills and 14 digs.
  • Mellanie King added her own standout night with 13 kills and 13 digs.
  • Junior Megan Fuhr registered a season-high 54 assists throughout the match, helping the team to a .268 hitting percentage.
COACHES CORNER
"It's great to get wins in your own gym," said head coach Dave Zelenock. "We were challenged throughout these last two matches, but did a great job from 20 points on and I think that's a sign of our growing maturity."
 
NEXT UP
The Citadel will take on UNCG for the second time this season, hosting the Spartans at McAlister Field House Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.
