Rifle Drops Home Match to No. 15 Jacksonville State, No. 17 North Georgia

RESULTS

CHARLESTON, S.C.
 – For the second weekend in a row, the 23rd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team hosted a pair of top-20 opponents Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. The Bulldogs, Gamecocks and Nighthawks participated in one relay with JSU taking top honors with an aggregate score of 4654. UNG finished second with a 4561 and The Citadel wrapped up the day third with a 4504.

Jacksonville State swept the top four spots behind Zach Schmidt and Mackenzie VanPatten's similar 1169s. Schmidt took top honors in smallbore with a 583 and posted a solid 586 in air rifle, but it was VanPatten who took the top spot in air with a 592.

The highest finisher for the Bulldogs was sophomore Emily Perkins with a 10th-place 1138.

THREE-POSITION SMALLBORE
  • Jacksonville State swept the top four spots in smallbore behind Schmidt's 583.
  • Perkins was the top finisher in the gun for the 'Dogs, recording a 10th-place 561 and just edging out senior Alexander McAlear, who posted the same score, off centers.
  • Freshman Cameron Bates finished third on the team with a 548, junior Max Brabston finished fourth with a 545 and sophomore Jack Wittman wrapped up his morning with a 540.

AIR RIFLE
  • Once again, it was JSU sweeping the top four spots behind VanPatten's 592 and a pair of 586s.
  • Perkins once again led the charge for the 'Dogs, firing off an eighth-best 577.
  • Bates was the second-highest scorer with a 574 and McAlear was third on the squad with a 570.
  • Brandon Oerman ended his day with a 568 and Brabston rounded out the scoring five with a 563.

COMING UP
The Bulldogs and Jacksonville State will take part in a head-to-head match tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 3 beginning at 8:45 a.m.
