Bulldogs Drop Season Finale to Wofford

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel closed out the 2019 season with a 31-11 loss to No. 14 Wofford Saturday afternoon at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

How it Happened
  • Wofford got on the board in the first quarter as they took advantage of a short field. They capitalized the 44-yard drive with a two-yard run from Nathan Walker.
  • The Terriers added to the lead on their next possession as Walker scored his second touchdown of the game, this time from eight yards out.
  • Defense would step up in the second quarter as the two offenses combined for just 67 yards and five first downs in the quarter.
  • Wofford opened the second half by using a six-play drive to extend the lead. Jazquez Allen did the damage with a 40-yard touchdown run.
  • The Bulldogs got on the board with their next possession as they used a 14-play drive that ate up 6:32 on the clock. Thirteen of the plays were on the ground with Clay Harris carrying seven times.
  • The drive ended with Jacob Godek connecting on a 34-yard field goal.
  • The Terriers nearly returned the ensuing kickoff and needed only one play for Blake Morgan to score from 10 yards out.
  • The Bulldogs put together one more scoring drive in the fourth quarter as Brandon Rainey hit Raleigh Webb on a fourth-down conversion. The junior reached out with one hand to haul in the 27-yard reception.
  • On the next play, Rainey found Dante Smith in the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • The Citadel outgained the Terriers 336-258, including 212-205 on the ground.
  • The Bulldogs also possessed the ball for 34:28. They finished the season with an average time of possession of 35:31, currently leading the FCS.
  • Brandon Rainey led the offense by rushing 23 times for 75 yards. He also completed 10 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
  • Rainey finished the season with 900 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. He also threw for 1,124 yards and 13 touchdowns.
  • He is the first quarterback to throw for over 1,000 yards since Bart Blanchard threw for 2,436 yards in 2008.
  • Rainey finished the season by accounting for a school-record 30 touchdowns (17 rushing, 13 passing). He has accounted for 36 touchdowns (22 rushing, 16 passing, 1 receiving)
  • Clay Harris added 60 yards on 17 carries, while Remus Bulmer closed out his career with 47 yards on just six carries.
  • Freshman Logan Billings carried eight times for 30 yards.
  • Raleigh Webb caught six passes for 59 yards. He finishes the year with 30 catches for 617 yards and 10 touchdowns.
  • It is the most receptions and yards since Andre Roberts caught 77 passes for 792 yards during the 2009 season. The 10 touchdown receptions are the most since Roberts posted 14 in 2008.
  • Willie Eubanks III finished the game with 11 tackles. It was the sixth double-digit tackle performance of the season for the junior.
  • Eubanks finishes the season with 112 tackles, the most since Travis Stephens (144) and Denny Haywood (134) during the 2000 season.
  • Joseph Randolph II finished his career by posting seven tackles and two tackles-for-loss.
