CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 22
nd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team will host No. 15 NC State on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
The match will feature one relay that will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Saturday's match will mark the second meeting this season between the two. The Citadel hosted then ninth-ranked NC State on Oct. 6 in a tri-match with 19
th ranked North Georgia. The Wolfpack won the match with an aggregate score of 4658.
SCOUTING NC STATE
For the year, NC State has been led by
Claire Spina, Emily Fisher and
Will Marcinak. Spina boasts the Pack's five top aggregate scores, including an 1170 set on Jan. 19. Fisher boasts two of the Wolf Pack's top 10 scores, including a season-best 1163 set on Jan. 20. Marciniak's best score of the season, an 1157, came back on Oct. 27.
LAST TIME OUT
For the third time in four weeks, The Citadel mixed rifle team posted a new season-best aggregate score, a 4575, to win a National Rifle Association (NRA) Sectional over No. 24 Georgia Southern (4545). The match, held on Jan. 26, also saw the Bulldogs defeat No. 26 VMI (4485) apart from the NRA Sectional.
As part of the NRA Sectional, the top three individual finishers in each gun were awarded a medal and the winning team in each discipline also earned an award. The Citadel took top honors in smallbore with a 2265 aggregate score over Georgia Southern's 2218 and VMI's 2216. GS claimed top honors in air rifle with a 2327 with the Bulldogs finishing second with a 2310, ahead of VMI's 2269. The Citadel's 2310 in air rifle was a new season best for the Bulldogs.
Georgia Southern's
Courtney Weekley (578) and
Rosemary Kramer (564) finished first and third in smallbore with The Citadel's
Izzie Blystone bringing home silver-medal honors in the gun with a new season-best 573 for the freshman.
Kramer (593) and Weekley (583) flip-flopped in air rifle, with Kramer finishing first and Weekley third, while
Max Brabston (586) brought home second-place honors in the gun.
Weekley took overall top honors on the day with an aggregate score of 1161 and Kramer finished second with an 1157. Blystone finished third overall with an 1154, the best aggregate score of the season by any Bulldog, and Brabston finished fourth.
Allison Auten (1138) and
Alexander McAlear (1133) finished fifth and sixth to guide the Bulldogs to the victory.
Freshman
Emily Perkins once again showed marked improvement as she posted a season-best 1112 aggregate score, including a 546 in three-position smallbore and a 566 in air rifle.
UP NEXT
Following Saturday's match, the Bulldogs will have just one regular-season match left before hosting an NCAA Qualifying match. Next Saturday, Feb. 9, The Citadel will host North Georgia.
