CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 23 Citadel mixed rifle team will host an NCAA qualifier on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. The match will feature 20
th-ranked UAB, No. 24 Georgia Southern and 26
th-ranked Wofford.
The match will feature two relays and will get underway at 7:45 a.m.
SCOUTING NO. 20 UAB
Since the beginning of the 2019 calendar year, UAB has competed in three matches, all on the road. The Blazers have faced off against North Georgia, UT-Martin and Georgia Southern, winning all three matchups. In the match against North Georgia (Jan. 25), the Blazers fired their best aggregate score of the season, a 4603.
Michael Dietz has posted UAB's top five aggregate scores, including a season-best 1175 on Oct. 5. Behind Dietz,
Sophia Flores,
Jordan Blankenship and
Zoe Lum are the Blazers' next best shooters.
SCOUTING NO. 24 GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Georgia Southern has gone 7-4 in 2019, winning matches. The Eagles most recently competed against Wofford and UAB in Statesboro, defeating the Terriers, but falling to the Blazers. The Eagles' best aggregate score, a 4566, came on Oct. 20, in a match at The Citadel. The Eagles and Bulldogs have split the last four matches 2-2 with the 'Dogs winning the most recent two head-to-head contests.
Rosemary Kramer and
Courtney Weekley have led the way all season for the Eagles, posting the Eagles' 19 best aggregate scores.
Rachel Gray boasts the Eagles' next-best aggregate with an 1138 in 20
th. Kramer had a season-best 1174 on Oct. 20, and Weekley posted her best aggregate score, an 1173, on Dec. 2.
SCOUTING NO. 26 WOFFORD
The 26
th-ranked Terriers have competed three times in 2019. Wofford has posted two of its best aggregate scores of the season in 2019, including a season-best 4461 on Jan. 19. The Terriers also fired a 4457 on Feb. 2. Most recently, the Terriers finished third behind UAB and Georgia Southern in a match in Statesboro on Feb. 9.
Daniel Wesson boasts the Terriers' eight best aggregate scores, including an 1148 on Jan. 19 and an 1142 on Feb. 9.
Scott Condo and
Marcus Stallings are the Terriers' next-best shooters. Condo fired an 1123 aggregate score on Feb. 2, and Stallings shot an 1112 on Nov. 3.
LAST TIME OUT
The 22
nd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team put together a solid showing on Feb. 9 at the Inouye Marksmanship Center, but it was not enough as the 19
th-ranked Nighthawks from North Georgia downed the Bulldogs 4582-4569. The Bulldogs' women's team ended the day with a 4207 aggregate score.
Once again it was freshman
Izzie Blystone leading the way for the Bulldogs as the Aiken, South Carolina native posted her best aggregate score and best air rifle score of the season. Blystone finished the match second overall with an 1157, just three points off leader
Tobin Sanctuary's 1160. Blystone took top honors in air with a 589 after starting her day off third in three-position smallbore with a 568.
Behind Blystone, senior
Allison Auten had a solid showing, finishing fourth overall with an 1142, including a 562 in smallbore and a 580 in air. Auten finished fifth in both smallbore and air.
Sophomore
Max Brabston finished his day off sixth with an 1133, including a 548 in smallbore and a 585 in air. Brabston's 585 in air rifle placed him third in the discipline.
Rounding out the scoring five for the Bulldogs' mixed team were junior
Alexander McAlear and freshman
Emily Perkins. McAlear finished seventh overall with an 1133 (563 smallbore, 570 air), while Perkins continued to show improvement in her young career with a ninth-place 1117 (543 smallbore, 574 air).
Tierra Price and
Megan Waters led The Citadel women's team with a 1068 and a 1066 aggregate score, respectively. Price, who set a season high with her aggregate score, fired off a 529 in smallbore before wrapping up air rifle with a 539. Waters started her day off with a 520 before leading the way in air with a 546.
Freshman
Alisha Rabaca ended her day with a 1059 aggregate (518 smallbore, 541 air) with fellow freshman
Chelsea Sitarik closing out the afternoon with a 1014 (482 smallbore, 532 air).
Abby Koger shot a 991 aggregate made up of a 472 smallbore and a 519 in air.
UP NEXT
Following Saturday's match, The Citadel will have a week off to prepare for the Southern Conference Championships, hosted by Georgia Southern on Saturday, March 2 (smallbore) and Sunday, March 3 (Air rifle). The match will be held at Georgia Southern's Shooting Sports Education Center and will mark the third time the championships have been held since the SoCon brought rifle back to their championship sports ranks.
