CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team will open both the 2019 home slate and the Southern Conference portion of the Bulldogs' schedule this weekend with a 1 p.m. match against Furman on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Bulldogs' 2019 home matches will be played at the Jack Adams Tennis Center, located just outside the north endzone of Johnson Hagood Stadium at 209 Congress Street. The Bulldogs' permanent home, the Earle Tennis Center, is being prepared for renovations.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, The Citadel's three matches against Eastern Florida State, Florida Tech and Bethune-Cookman were cancelled due to heavy rains down in Florida. The Bulldogs enter the weekend 4-10 on the year.
SCOUTING FURMAN
Furman enters the weekend 4-3, including a 1-2 mark on the road, and riding a three-match winning streak. The Paladins boast wins over South Carolina State (7-0), Belmont (4-3), USC Upstate (7-0) and North Greenville (7-0). Furman's roster is heavy with experience, including senior
Alex Steryous and juniors
Jake Bhangdia,
Jake Munns and
Clarke Wilson. The Dins also have three sophomores, including
Henrik Atlevi,
Ivan Mitric and
Drew Singerman, as well as freshman
James Roelofse. Bhangdia is 6-1 on the year, including 4-1 at No. 4 singles, and Singerman is 5-0, including 3-0 at No. 5.
UP NEXT
Following the home match with Furman, The Citadel will hit the road again for seven matches, including five over the span of three days next weekend, Friday, Feb. 22 – Sunday, Feb. 24. The Bulldogs will return home for the final 12 home matches, all in a row, beginning March 9 when Radford and Methodist visit Charleston.
