CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team hits the road this weekend for five matches, including four around the Atlanta, Georgia area.
The Bulldogs will first travel to Central, South Carolina for a 3 p.m. match at Southern Wesleyan on Friday, Feb. 22. The 'Dogs will then take on Point and Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Atlanta. The match against Point will start at 9 a.m., while the match versus Rose-Hulman will commence at 2 p.m. The Citadel will close out the weekend with matches against Georgia Gwinnett and Oglethorpe on Sunday, Feb. 24. The match against Georgia Gwinnett will start at 9 a.m., and the weekend's final match will begin at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Bulldogs opened their home slate with a Southern Conference match against Furman. The 'Dogs fell 6-1 to the Paladins with
Noah Nawabi claiming the lone point at No. 3 singles. Doubles action got the day started with Furman sweeping all three matchups, but
Phillip Quinn and Nawabi joined forces to take four games from
Drew Singerman and
Henrik Atlevi at No. 3.
Jake Munns and
Ivan Mitric defeated
Willem van Zyl and
Gavin Stewart at No. 1 by a score of 6-2, and
Jake Bhangdia and
Clarke Wilson bested
Roy Hobson and
Will Graham by a similar score at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Nawabi came from behind after dropping the first set 6-4 to Bhangdia to win the second and third games 7-5, 7-6, winning the No. 3 singles point. At No. 1 singles, Hobson fell 6-4, 7-5 to Mitric, and
Jack Pyritz fell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 to Wilson. Van Zyl was defeated by Atlevi 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Stewart fell 6-3, 6-0 to Singerman at No. 5 singles, and Graham dropped the No. 6 matchup to
James Roelofse, 6-1, 6-0.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN WESLEYAN
Southern Wesleyan is 1-4 on the year, having defeated Brevard at home 4-3. The Warriors have played three matches at home and are 1-2. SWU is a very young team, featuring three freshmen, a sophomore and two juniors. The senior leadership comes from juniors
Peter Kovats and
Ben Smith. Sophomore
Joseph Olatunji is joined by freshmen
Nathan Holley,
Sarvesh Maria and
Leonard Sanders as the underclassmen contributing this season.
SCOUTING POINT
The Point Skyhawks are currently 3-4 on the year with wins over Georgia Southwestern State, Middle Georgia State and Bluefield State College. Point's roster features four seniors and three juniors to help lead three sophomores and two freshmen. The seniors include

Kyle Howell,
Kaleb Sosebee and
Steven Tracy. The juniors include
Federico Barbon,
Joe Klokow and
Patrick Tobacco.
SCOUTING ROSE-HULMAN
Rose-Hulman travels down from Terre Haut, Indiana with an 0-2 record, but both losses came at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents. The Fightin' Engineers are led by seniors
Andre Adam,
Jacob Pluta,
Andrew Schiffman and
Ben Strate, and also feature juniors
Ian Landwehr and
Austin Perry to lead a sophomore and five freshmen.
SCOUTING GEORGIA GWINNETT
Georgia Gwinnett comes into the week with a 3-0 record, including wins over Lander, Emory and No. 14 Union (Ky.). The Grizzlies are an experienced team featuring seniors
Rafael Coutinho and
Ayed Zatar, as well as juniors
Federico Herrera Duran,
Gregor Hutterer,
Mika Kosonen and
Sergio Valinotti.
SCOUTING OGLETHORPE
Oglethorpe has played just one match so far this season, beating Covenant 8-1. The match against The Citadel will be an exhibition for the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe is led by seniors
Tyler Burgess,
John Carter,
Richard Johnson,
Matthew Magee and
Michael Santaloci, complimenting juniors Alexander Garcia and Zoe Raymond.
UP NEXT
Next week, the Bulldogs will travel to the Greensboro, North Carolina area for a pair of matches. The 'Dogs will first tangle with Penn on Monday, March 4 in a 9 a.m. match in Raleigh before trekking the short distance to UNCG for a 4 p.m. SoCon match. The Bulldogs will then be home for 13 matches through the beginning of April.
