CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Citadel women's soccer team opens the home portion of the 2019 schedule this weekend with a game at WLI Field and another at Summerall Field. The home slate opens on Friday, Aug. 30 when North Dakota travels to WLI Field for a 4 p.m. match. The month of September will then open with a 12 p.m. game on Summerall Field against Navy on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The pair of home games open a stretch where the Bulldogs will play six out of their next seven games at home.

THE SET PIECE (ABOUT THE CITADEL)
The Bulldogs started the 2019 season by going 1-1 in the first two games, including a 5-0 victory in the season opener at Bob Jones on Aug. 22. Five different Bulldogs scored in the game with the Bruins, including the first goal of the season by Logan Dix. Dix and Marie Le Gallo each notched a goal and an assist. Kate Manzione, Hayley Long and Emily Mason all scored a goal in the game as well.

NCAA TAKEOVER
For the second straight year, The Citadel women's soccer team will be featured on the NCAA Soccer Instagram page (@NCAASoccer). The Bulldogs are taking over the page on Sunday, Sept. 1 to document a day in the life of a Citadel soccer cadet-athlete. Junior Ellie Burgess will be the featured Bulldog.

PLAYING FUTBOL ON THE PARADE GROUND
For the first time since 2015, an NCAA-sanctioned intercollegiate women's soccer game will be played on Summerall Field as the Bulldogs' women's soccer team will host Navy on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 12 p.m. The last time an NCAA-sanctioned contest was played on Summerall Field was Oct. 2, 2015, when the Bulldogs played Samford due to heavy rains that caused WLI Field to flood.

CAREER WIN NO. 50 FOR TRAQUAIR
The season-opening win over Bob Jones was No. 50 overall for Ciaran Traquair as a collegiate head coach, and No. 20 in his career at The Citadel.

THE HISTORY WITH NORTH DAKOTA
Friday's game at WLI Field will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING HAWKS
The Fighting Hawks of North Dakota travel to the lowcountry with a 2-0-1 record on the year. Most recently, the Hawks defeated South Carolina State 2-0 in Orangeburg on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The Hawks received goals from Olivia Knox and Mimi Eiden. Knox, Eiden, Mara Yapello and Meghan Wilson have scored North Dakota's four goals on the year. North Dakota opened the season with a 0-0 draw at home against Montana in the season opener. Two days later, the Hawks defeated Saint Mayr's (Calif.) 2-1 in double overtime. The Fighting Hawks went 9-6-2 last season and return 15 letterwinners, including eight starters in 2019. Included in the returners are two of the Hawks' top three goal scorers from last season, Knox and Cassie Giddings with five goals each a season ago. Last season's top goal scorer was Katie Moller with 15.

THE HISTORY WITH NAVY
The Citadel and the Naval Academy have met in women's soccer three times prior to Sunday's meeting with the Midshipmen claiming all three previous contests. The two teams first met in Annapolis in 2004 with Navy claiming an 8-0 victory. In 2011, the two teams met in Charleston for the first time as part of The Citadel Nike Challenge. Navy claimed a hard-fought, 2-1 victory in the 105th minute of the double overtime match. The most recent game between the two was in 2013 when the 'Dogs traveled back to Annapolis, where Navy won 5-0.

SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
Navy enters the weekend with a 1-1 mark, including a 1-0 home win over Buffalo in the season opener and a 1-0 loss to 24th-ranked LSU at home. The Midshipmen play at Charleston Southern on Friday, Aug. 30 before taking on the Bulldogs Sunday. The Midshipmen went 11-6-3 in 2018, including a stretch of five straight wins and winning four of their last six games. Navy returns 15 letterwinners, including seven starters, and brought in nine newcomers. Three of the top four returners from last season return, including leading scorer Baseley McClaskey with seven goals. Also returning are Alex Jackson with four goals in 2018 and Cadie Higginson with three. Higginson scored the Midshipmen's first goal of 2019 in the win over Buffalo.
