2019-20 Rifle Schedule Released

2019-20 SCHEDULE

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Citadel head rifle coach Richie Parra released the 2019-20 Citadel rifle schedule Thursday afternoon.

The slate of 13 dates includes eight home matches at the Inouye Marksmanship Center, four road matches and the 2020 Southern Conference Championships hosted by Georgia Southern. The season will be divided up into eight matches during the fall of 2019 with the remaining five, including the SoCon match, in the spring.

"We started off the school year with a nice week-long break thanks to Hurricane Dorian, but we are back and we are ready to kick off the season with our traditional season-opening match against VMI," Parra said. "We have an interesting schedule this semester that includes a home match with Navy, which the team hasn't shot against in a few years, and our close friends from N.C. State. We also have Jacksonville State coming for another home match this year which is something I haven't experienced even since I was a cadet shooting, so we have some exciting changes to look forward to this year. The shooters and I are eager to get things started!"

The 2019-20 season will start off very similar to how the 2018-19 commenced with the 'Dogs traveling up to Lexington, Va. to take on the Keydets of VMI on Saturday, Sept. 21. The two military institutions have developed a friendly rivalry in rifle over the years that sees the winning team of their head-to-head matches holding on to the other's range flag during the regular season. The Citadel has maintained control of VMI's range flag for the last two years, winning each of the last four head-to-head meetings.

The Bulldogs will then begin a stretch of six straight home matches beginning with a head-to-head matchup with Wofford on Saturday, Oct. 10.

The Citadel hosts UAB and Georgia Southern on Saturday, Oct. 12 with N.C. State and Navy coming to town for a pair of matches on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27.

The home stretch will end with North Georgia and Jacksonville State traveling to Charleston for two head-to-head matchups on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3.

The fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule will see the Bulldogs head to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on the Gamecocks for the second-straight week on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Bulldogs open up the 2020 portion of the campaign against the same opponent that the 2019 portion began. VMI travels to Charleston for the second meeting of the season on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The 'Dogs will then head to North Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Wofford on Saturday, Feb. 8.

After taking a week off from outside competition, The Citadel will host Wofford, UAB and N.C. State in the final regular-season match on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The 2020 Southern Conference Rifle Championships will be held in Statesboro, Ga. and hosted by Georgia Southern. Three-position smallbore will start the weekend off on Saturday, March 7, while air rifle will take place on Sunday, March 8.

Last season, the Bulldogs finished third at the 2019 SoCon Rifle Championships behind UAB and North Georgia.
