Dix Penalty Kick Gives ‘Dogs 1-0 Win

BELMONT, N.C. – The Citadel got a penalty kick goal from Logan Dix early in the second half for a 1-0 victory over Belmont Abbey Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

  • 49' Logan Dix tucks a penalty shot inside the post for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
 
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs had their chances to get on the board in the first half as they recorded 10 shots in the first 45 minutes.
  • Two of the shots got past the keeper, but hit each of the posts.
  • The Bulldogs opened the second half by getting pressure inside the box. A shot was knocked down with a handball, setting up a penalty kick.
  • Dix converted the penalty kick four her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
  • The penalty kick was the first for the Bulldogs this season.
  • The Citadel kept the pressure on the entire game as they outshot the Crusaders 22-6.
  • The Bulldogs also recorded 12 corner kicks.
  • The Citadel had several scoring chances later in the second half, but the Crusader keeper was able to come up with big saves.
  • BAC attempted to tie the game with just under five minutes to play, but Brie Sikes came up with a big save.
  • Sikes would be tested one more time in the final seconds, but the sophomore was up to the task to complete the game with a clean sheet.
 
Notables
  • The Bulldogs posted back-to-back games without allowing a goal since opening the 2016 with three-straight clean sheets.
  • The Citadel has not allowed a goal in 202:30.
  • The shutout was the second in the career for Brie Sikes. The sophomore also posted a shutout in a 1-0 victory over ETSU in the opening round of the 2019 Southern Conference Tournament.
  • The goal for Logan Dix was the 19th of her career. She now stands alone in fourth place on the school's all-time goals list.
 
Next Up
The Bulldogs close out the road swing with a game at Mercer on Oct. 10. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
