Bulldogs Defeat Mercer on Ford’s Game Winner

MACON, Ga. – Ani Ford scored in the 87th minute to give The Citadel a 3-2 victory over Mercer Friday afternoon at Betts Stadium. The victory was the first for the Bulldogs over the Bears in program history.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Logan Dix converted a penalty just 2:08 into the contest.
  • The goal was the second fastest in school history, just one second shy of the record of 2:07 scored by Kelly Pesterfield against Chattanooga on Sept. 21, 2001.
  • Dix would add her second goal of the game on a header.
  • Mercer got a goal back late in the first off of a rebound.
  • The Bears tied the game on a penalty shot.
  • The Bulldogs converted a set piece late in the game when Rachel Posner took the corner kick, setting up Ford's game-winning goal.
  • Brie Sikes played the final 15:13 seconds in goal to pick up the victory.

  • Ani Ford's goal was her first of the season and second of her career.
  • The two goals scored by Dix marked the third multi-goal game of her career.
