The Citadel struck first behind an early goal from Adrianna Gill, but Western Carolina responded with four first-half goals to build a 4-1 advantage. Gill found the back of the net again just before halftime before Jasiah Pack pulled the Bulldogs within one in the second half.
"My team did what they have always done this year and battled to the final minute of the game," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We put ourselves in a hole in the first half but responded really well in the second. The ladies gave everything and represented The Citadel with commitment and class. I would have loved the opportunity to lead them into a quarterfinal on Sunday, but it wasn't to be after tonight's tough loss.
"The season has been hugely successful with some really special moments and individual accolades. I think this group has raised the bar for us moving into fall 2027. We wish our departing players every success in the future as they walk away from our program and build the next phase of their lives."First Half
- Gill gave The Citadel an early advantage just 2:42 into the match, finishing off assists from Pack and Samantha Grantham for a 1-0 lead.
- Western Carolina answered at 3:51 behind a goal from Darien Vita before Caroline Simpkins scored at 5:15 to put the Catamounts ahead, 2-1.
- Zoe Santos made three saves during a stretch of Western Carolina pressure, but Gabriela Vatrano and MacKenzie Howard added goals at 28:34 and 33:47 to extend the deficit to 4-1.
- The Citadel continued to push late in the half, and Gill struck again at 44:26 off Grantham's second assist of the match to send the Bulldogs into halftime trailing, 4-2.
Second Half
- The Citadel came out of the break looking to cut into the deficit, with Gill recording an early shot before the Bulldogs earned a corner kick.

- The Citadel continued to search for the equalizer over the final 20 minutes, generating attempts from Boyd, Gill, Alixandria Fletcher and Charlotte Seay.

Gill finished with two goals while leading The Citadel with five shots, including three on goal. The brace pushed her season total to five goals.
