COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the second straight meet, a freshman indoor track record was set as The Citadel's
Sam Sharnas set the men's freshman program record for the 5,000-meter race during the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina.
Last weekend at the VMI Team Challenge, Sharnas,
Andrew Smith,
Kane Duncan and
Aidan Richter set the program freshman record for the distance medley relay.
The Men's Side Rundown
- Sharnas broke the freshman program record that was set in 1998 by Andrew Cawood with a time of 15:16.30. The time is also fifth overall in program history.
- Junior Devin Merrick finished sixth in the men's pole vault invite with a height of 15' 5", while junior Sam Blumer finished seventh with a similar height.
- Junior Lindsay Pierce finished seventh in the men's pole vault open with a height of 13' 7.25".
- Freshman Prince Moody finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6' 2", and junior Kenya Pinckney finished seventh with a jump of 6' 0".
- Senior Prince Howard-Whitaker ended his weekend seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 47' 1.5".
- Sophomore Triston McClain ended his time in Columbia with a 10th-place effort in the triple jump, recording a distance of 41' 10.5".
The Women's Side Rundown
- Senior Jessy Page finished second in the women's weight throw with a toss of 51' 1.75".
- Sophomore Mya Dollard posted a leap of 5' 1" in the high jump, finishing ninth.
- Freshman Heidi Fortin raced her way to a 10th-place time in the women's 5K, posting the program's fifth-fastest time in the event with a time of 18:48.01.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will return to Columbia again next weekend to participate in the South Carolina Invitational Friday, Feb. 7 – Saturday, Feb. 8.
