COLUMBIA, S.C. – A pair of Sams set a pair of program records for The Citadel track and field team this weekend at the South Carolina Invitational.
Junior
Sam Blumer set the program record for the pole vault with a height of 16' 0.75", while freshman
Sam Sharnas set his third program freshman record in as many weeks with a personal record time of 4:23.95 in the mile.
The Men's Side Rundown
- Blumer's vault of 16' 0.75" placed him fifth in the invite pole vault. He broke his own previous record of 15' 11" that he shared with Devin Merrick.
- Merrick finished eighth over the weekend with a season-best vault of 15' 5".
- Lindsay Pierce finished third in the open pole vault with a season-best height of 13' 11.25".
- The previous freshman record in the mile that Sharnas broke was set in 1978 by Matt Smith with a time of 4:24.00.
- Prince Howard-Whitaker record a personal record of 44' 4.25" in the shot put.
- Jon Barrett Lewis recorded a pair of PRs in the shot put (42' 3.25") and weight throw (43' 10.5").
- Aidan Richter matched his personal record in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:57.80.
- In the 400-meter dash, Kane Duncan set a PR with a time of 50.83.

The Citadel will next travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Thursday, Feb. 13 for the JDL Team Challenge. The Bulldogs will then have one final event, the USC Indoor Open, on Saturday, Feb. 22 before traveling to Lexington, Virginia for the 2020 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 29 – March 1.
