Bulldogs Ride Offense Into Quarterfinals

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel scored four goals on their way to a 4-1 victory over VMI in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon at WLI Field.

How it Happened
  • 32' – Suzuka Yosue played a ball up the right side and Ani Ford crossed the ball for a sliding Alex Madden to beat the keeper in the bottom left corner.
  • 55' – Yosue scored her first of the game as she took a pass at the top of the box and fired a shot into the bottom right corner.
  • 56' – Just over a minute later, Yosue scored her second goal of the game on a penalty kick.
  • 86' – Maria Contreras got on the board in her final game at WLI Field and she took a pass from Naya Boulany and beat the goalie in the bottom left corner from just outside the box.
  • 87' – VMI got on the board with a goal from Whitney Edwards-Roberson.

  • The Bulldogs have now won a conference tournament game in three-straight tournaments. The Citadel also picked up first-round victories on the road in 2018 and 2019.
  • The victory was the 10th of the season for the Bulldogs. It marks just the second time in program history The Citadel has reached double figures in wins.
  • The Bulldogs four goals give them 42 on the season, breaking the record for goals scored in a season. The Citadel entered the match tied with the 2002 team for most goals (38) in a season.
  • The goal from Alex Madden was her fifth of the season.

  • Her 33 points are the second most in school history, trailing on Kelly Pesterfield who had 34 points in 2001.

  • Ani Ford finished with two assists and raised her season total to seven.
  • The assists from Jordyn Geller and Naya Boulany were the first of the season for both players.
  • Jess Newton made three saves and did not allow a goal in 85:05 of action.
