GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team travels to Greenville for the quarterfinals of the 2021 Southern Conference Tournament on Friday. The No. 7 Bulldogs will take on No. 2 Furman at 5:30 p.m.
SoCon First Round
The Bulldogs opened the SoCon Tournament with a 4-1 victory over VMI in the opening round. The Citadel got a pair of goals from
Suzuka Yosue, and a goal each from
Alex Madden and
Maria Contreras in the victory.
Double Digit Wins
The Bulldogs victory over VMI in the opening round of the tournament was the program's 10
th win of the season. It marks just the second time the Bulldogs have reached double digits in wins in program history.
Record Setting Scoring
The Bulldogs have scored 42 goals this season to establish a new program record for goals in the season. The tally breaks the old record of 38 set during the 2002 season.
Yosue Double-Double
Forward
Suzuka Yosue scored a pair of goals and added an assist against VMI. She now has 11 goals and 11 assists on the season. Her 33 points are just one shy of the school record set by Kelly Pesterfield in 2001.
Scouting Furman
Furman enters the tournament with an overall record of 10-5-1 and a 6-3-0 mark in SoCon matches. The Paladins defeated the Bulldogs 4-0 in the regular season finale. Kyndal Anderson leads the Paladins with 10 goals, while Nieva Gaither has eight goals and five assists.
