How it Happened
  • Dazjon Casto picked up the first win of the day when he knocked off No. 17 Justin Thomas of Oklahoma.
  • The match went into overtime tied 1-1 after both wrestlers earned escape points.
  • After an attempted shot from Thomas, Casto took a shot of his own, securing the double leg. He followed it up by continuing the takedown to earn four more back points.
  • Michael McAleavey picked up his first win in the consolation bracket over Sam Aguilar of Cal Poly.
  • McAleavey trailed 6-0 heading into the third period. He quickly secured a takedown and then turned into a cradle for the fall just 27 seconds into the period.
  • Casto came back in the quarterfinals to face No. 6 Peyton Rabb of Nebraska.
  • The match was tied 1-1 late into the third period before Rabb secured a takedown.
  • Casto nearly got a reversal in the final seconds, but was not awarded the points.
  • McAleavey closed out the first day of action with an 8-4 decision over Daniel Conley of Columbia.
