
Track and Field Set for SoCon Indoor Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel is set to compete in the 2021 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI in Lexington, Va., on Friday and Saturday to wrap up the indoor season. The championships will be broadcast live on ESPN+ .

Saturday's events are scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. with the heptathlon and pentathlon events, with individual events beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the men's shot put; Day 1's action will conclude with the men's distance medley relay at approximately 6:35 p.m. On Sunday, the final three heptathlon events will kick off the action at 9 a.m., and the meet will wrap up with the women's and men's 4x400m relays beginning at 3:50 p.m.

In their last time out, the Bulldogs competed at the USC Indoor Open on Feb. 13 in an event that saw Sam Blumer establish a new school record of 5.01m (16-5.25) in the pole vault en route to a tie for the championship in the event. The men's DMR team of Will Ray, Aidan Richter, Jeremy Walker and Ty Duben took second place with a time of 10:50.43, and the 4x400m relay squad of Kane Duncan, Treonte Newton, Jeremy Shipley and Tyler Manon placed third overall in 3:22.97.

On the women's side at the USC Indoor Open, Leah Murray ran a personal-best time of 7.91 in the 60m dash that clocked in as the fourth-fastest in program history in the indoor event; Murray also posted the third-fastest indoor time in the 200m at 25.92. The 4x300m team of Joie Royer, Murray, Jay Mitchell and Tamia Burch established a new program record in the event with a time of 2:58.33.

The Citadel has not yet announced its outdoor schedule for the spring but will return to action later in the season outdoors.
