CHARLESTON, S.C. – After nearly a month off since competing in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, The Citadel track and field programs will kick off their outdoor campaign at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., on Friday and Saturday.
Â
Friday's action is tentatively slated to get underway at 10 a.m. with the women's open hammer throw and will run through the men's 5,000m event at approximately 7:05 p.m. On Saturday, the women's discus will start the day at 10 a.m. before the meet concludes with the men's 4x400m relay at 5:30 p.m.
Â
In their last time out in the indoor season finale, eight Bulldogs earned all-conference honors, including four individuals and a relay team, as the men's team placed seventh overall and the women took eighth in Lexington, Va.
Â
For the men, both Sam Blumer and Devin Merrick were all-conference performers in the pole vault, Prince Howard-Whitaker earned accolades in the weight throw and Timiebi Ogobri claimed them in the 60m dash. In addition, the 4x400m relay squad of Kane Duncan, Treonte Newton, Jeremy Shipley and Tyler Manon captured the honors as a unit.
On the women's side, 10 performances at the Indoor Championships ranked among the top 10 in program history in their respective events, led by Samantha Engel's school record of 10-11.75 (3.35m) in the pole vault.
Â
The Citadel will return to Columbia for its next event following the Weems Baskin Invitational as the Bulldogs are set to compete in the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, April 10.
