CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel will make another trip to Columbia on Saturday to compete in the USC Open hosted by the Gamecocks, the Bulldogs' third trip to South Carolina during the outdoor campaign.
Â
Saturday's action is tentatively slated to get underway at 9 a.m. with the women's open pole vault, women's hammer throw, men's javelin throw and Section 3 of the women's 3,000m run and is set to conclude at approximately 6:25 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
Â
In their last time out, the Bulldogs competed at last week's Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, racking up 15Â top-10 finishes between the men's and women's teams.
Â
For the men, graduate transfer JP Caglione captured Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors with top-10 finishes in both the hammer throw and the shot put. The Citadel has now won a weekly award in three consecutive weeks after Milan Williams and Sam Blumer also captured Field Athlete of the Week in the last two weeks.
On the women's side, Heidi Fortin had the third-best time in school history in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:29.57, and Leah Murray ran the fastest time ever, 12.29, by a Bulldog freshman in the 100m dash that also ranks as the second-best time overall in The Citadel's history.
Â
Following Saturday's meet, The Citadel will return to competition at the SoCon Outdoor Championships hosted by Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C., on May 1 and 2.
