Season Ends in Military Classic of the South

LEXINGTON, VA. – The Citadel football team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs fell, 31-17, to No. 15 VMI in the 76th edition of the Military Classic of the South.

How it Happened
  • The Keydets got on the board first as they converted a 17-yard screen pass midway through the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
  • They doubled the lead on their next possession after a 10-play drive ended with a three-yard touchdown reception from Jakob Herres.
  • The Bulldogs got on the board in the second quarter with a 15-play drive that ate up 8:46. The drive ended with Jaylan Adams going over the top for the one-yard touchdown.
  • VMI answered back on their next possession with a three-yard touchdown run from Seth Morgan.
  • The Bulldogs closed out the scoring in the first half by ending a 17-play drive with a 32-yard field goal off the right leg of Colby Kintner.
  • The defense set up the next scoring drive as Marquise Blount forced a fumble that was recovered by Andy Davis.
  • Two players later, Adams kept the ball around the right side and raced for a 22-yard touchdown.
  • VMI added a field goal late in the third quarter and put the game away with a 50-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter.

  • The Citadel offense put together scoring drives of 15 plays and 17 plays.
  • The offense rushed for 271 yards and two touchdowns on 65 attempts.
  • Nathan Storch paced the ground attack with 31 carries for 93 yards.

  • Defensively, the Bulldogs held the Keydets to just 76 yards on the ground.

  • He finished the year with 104 tackles, becoming the second Bulldog in as many years to pass the 100 tackle plateau.

  • The Bulldogs converted a turnover into points for the second week in a row. Just like last week, Adams scored a rushing touchdown on the second play following the turnover.
  • The Citadel did not turn the ball over and won the turnover battle.
  • The Bulldogs possessed the ball for 33:46 in the game. They held the ball for 22:39 in the second and third quarters.
