CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel will end its two and a half week homestand on Wednesday against Mercer as the Bears make the trip to the Earle Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (5-14, 0-4 SoCon) will be playing a conference match for the first time since March 20 against Furman. Last weekend, The Citadel split a Saturday doubleheader against Eastern Florida State and USC Sumter, falling against the Titans 7-2 in the morning match before rebounding with an 8-1 win over the Fire Ants in the afternoon.
Wednesday's battle is the final of seven straight matches at home for The Citadel, who have played on their home courts since March 19.
Mercer is 8-12 overall with a 2-2 mark in conference play. The Bears had their five-match winning streak snapped in their last time out, dropping a 6-1 decision against Furman on April 2.
The Citadel and Mercer will be meeting for just the 16th time on Wednesday, with the Bears holding a 9-6 edge in the all-time series. The Bulldogs will look to knock off the Cougars for the first time since a 6-1 victory on Feb. 8, 2004, and a win would snap Mercer's current eight-match streak.
Following Wednesday's match, The Citadel will wrap up the road portion of its 2020-21 campaign this weekend with trips to ETSU on Friday and to UNCG on Saturday. The Bulldogs will then have just one match remaining in a bout with Coastal Carolina next Wednesday at the Earle Tennis Center.
