CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel will play its final two regular season matches away from home this weekend as the Bulldogs travel to face ETSU on Friday at 2 p.m. and UNCG at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-16, 0-5 SoCon) will be seeking to bounce back after dropping a doubleheader against Mercer on Wednesday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center. Though Southern Conference foes, only one of the two matches counted toward The Citadel's conference record, with the second match against the Bears going down as a non-conference bout.
The Citadel is set to play back-to-back matches away from home for the first time since opening the campaign with seven consecutive matches on the road or at neutral sites. Three of the Bulldogs' five victories this season have come on the road, most recently a doubleheader sweep over Methodist on Feb. 20.
ETSU enters Friday's match with an 8-6 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in SoCon matches. The Bucs have won eight of their last nine matches and are on a four-match winning streak after downing Chattanooga, 5-2, in their last time out. Dimitri Badra, who has captured SoCon Player of the Week four times this season, leads ETSU with a 10-4 singles record that includes a 7-2 mark at the top position.
The Citadel trails in the all-time series against the Bucs by a 31-5 margin and will be seeking its first win in the series since 1989 on Friday afternoon.
UNCG sports a 2-10 record and is 0-5 in SoCon play entering the weekend. In their most recent time out, the Spartans snapped a four-match losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Davidson on April 3.
The Citadel and UNCG will be meeting for the 25th time, with the Spartans holding a 17-7 lead. The Bulldogs will shoot for their first win since a 7-0 sweep over UNCG in 2008.
Following Saturday's match, The Citadel will close out its regular season schedule with a non-conference match next Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. as the Bulldogs host in-state foe Coastal Carolina at the Earle Tennis Center.
