Track to Compete at Gamecock Invitational Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel is set to continue its outdoor season at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday in Columbia, its second time during the outdoor campaign traveling to South Carolina.

Saturday's action is tentatively slated to get underway at 9 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and Section 1 of the women's 5,000m run and will run through the men's 4x400m relay slated for 5:30 p.m.

In their last time out, the Bulldogs competed at last week's VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point, racking up 11 top-10 finishes between the men's and women's teams.

For the men, Sam Blumer captured Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors after a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, reaching a height of 15-5.5 (4.71m) on his third attempt. Evan McDonald continued his strong start to the outdoor season, picking up his second consecutive top-five finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 166-9 (50.82m).
On the women's side, Heidi Fortin posted the fourth-best time in program history in the 10,000m run, crossing the tape in 39:30.98 to finish in sixth place. Milan Williams earned a pair of top-10 finishes in throws events, taking fourth in the shot put and sixth in the hammer throw.

The Citadel will return to Columbia, S.C., for its next event as the Bulldogs are set to compete in the USC Open next Saturday, April 17.
