Bulldogs Have Chances in Tight Game With Cougars

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team was not without chances on Tuesday night in a tight game against the College of Charleston, The Cougars came away with the 6-3 victory at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars got on the board in the first after a leadoff double came to score on a groundout from Ari Sechopoulos.
  • The Citadel wasted little time in responding as Jeffery Brown started things with a triple into the left-field corner. Ryan McCarthy drove in Brown with a groundout to the right side.
  • Crosby Jones got the rally going again with a double to left center. On the next pitch, Noah Mitchell lined a double to right field.
  • CofC regained the lead in the second on a sacrifice fly and an infield grounder.
  • The Cougars added a run in the eighth on a solo homer from Sechopoulos.
  • The Bulldogs got the run back in the bottom of the inning as Brown singled and came around to score on Jones' single to right center.
  • A leadoff walk in the top of the ninth came around to score on a stolen base and throwing error.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Crosby Jones led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
  • Travis Lott finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
  • Jeffery Brown also collected two hits and scored a pair of runs.
  • Zack Jones (0-6) took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, in 3.1 innings.
  • Devin Beckley was impressive in his time on the bump as he did not allow a hit in 3.2 scoreless innings.
  • Zach Williams (2-0) picked up the win after giving up three runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings.

The Bulldogs return to action May 14-15 with a three-game series at Mercer. First pitch for the series opener is set for 6 p.m.
