CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel football team continues to progress through fall camp as the Bulldogs held their first scrimmage of the preseason Saturday morning inside Johnson Hagood Stadium.
"We still have a long way to go, but I am pleased with progress. I think we are still on track with about a week left in camp," said head coach
Brent Thompson. "We need to have some more live contact and tackle a little bit more. We ran about 44 plays with the one's and about 33 plays with the two's. We need to get those numbers up a little bit for the second scrimmage."
As is customary, the defense had the upper hand early in the first scrimmage. The defense was able to force a three-and-out on the first few possessions.
The offense was finally able to put together a drive that was capped by a
Jaylan Adams one-yard touchdown run.
The second-team offense was able to drive its way down to the one-yard line, but
Saul Diaz came up with a big stop at the goal line on fourth down.
Freshman
Ahmad Green showed off his running ability late in the scrimmage as he got free around the right side and raced his way for a 31-yard touchdown.
The offense found its way into the end zone on both of its goal-to-go possessions. Quarterback
Darique Hampton was able to find
Cole Owens over the middle for a touchdown on the first drive, then hit B-Back
Nathan Storch in the flat on the second.
The scrimmage concluded with
Jordan Marks making a big hit and forcing a fumble.
The Bulldogs will be off on Sunday before resuming practice Monday morning.
