Bulldogs Travel Up I-26 to Face CSU

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel hits the road for the only time in the first two months of the season as the Bulldogs make the short drive up I-26 to take on Charleston Southern on Feb. 22. First pitch from CSU Ballpark is set for 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs and Bucs are meeting for the 115th time on the diamond with The Citadel holding a 58-36 advantage in the series. The series is tied 22-22 in games played in North Charleston, with the last meeting resulting in a 10-5 Bulldog win in 2020.


First of Three Against the Bucs
Tuesday's game is the first of three meetings between the two teams. They will meet again inside Riley Park on March 1 and April 6.


Season-Opening Sweep
The Bulldogs opened the season with a three-game sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson. It marked the second time in the last three seasons the Bulldogs opened with a sweep. The Citadel opened the 2020 season with a sweep over Coppin State. Prior to that, the previous season-opening sweep came against Air Force in 2015.


30-Run Opening Weekend
The Citadel scored 30 runs in the three-game series against Fairleigh Dickinson. It is the highest opening-weekend run total in a three-game series since the Bulldogs scored 38 runs to open the 1993 season. The Citadel scored 29 runs in the opening weekend in 2020.


Reeves Dominant Outing
Right hander Cameron Reeves was dominant in his first start of the season. The senior allowed just one run and struck out eight over 8.0 innings. He did not walk a batter in throwing just 83 pitches.


Homer in Opener
Ben Hutchins drove in the first run of the season with a solo home run in the season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson. It marked the second-straight year the Bulldogs homered on opening day. Last season, Tyler Corbitt homered in the season opener. Prior to last season, the last homer on opening day came off the bat of Drew Ellis in 2016.


7-Run Inning
This Bulldogs had a pair of seven-run innings in the series opener. They used a seven-run eighth inning to take the lead in the season opener, then scored seven runs in the third inning in Sunday's finale. It was the first seven-run innings since posting seven runs in the third inning against Wofford on May 9, 2021. The Citadel scored seven runs in an inning twice in 2021.


Skole's Career Day
Shortstop Tilo Skole had a career day during the opening weekend as he drove in four runs in the Saturday win over FDU. It bested his previous career-best of three RBIs set against Copping State on Feb. 16, 2020.


On Deck
The Bulldogs return to Riley Park for a three-game series against Villanova on Feb. 25-27. The first two games of the series will start at 3 p.m., with Sunday's game getting underway at 1 p.m.
