Bulldogs Begin Homestand With Villanova

GAME NOTES

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel begins a 20-game homestand as they welcome Villanova to Riley Park for a three-game series on Feb. 25-27. The two teams will open the series at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The series will continue at 3 p.m. on Saturday and conclude with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s during the series opener, then be in the 60s for the remaining two games of the series.

All three games of the series with Villanova will be broadcast on ESPN+. Dave Weinstein will be on the call for all three games.

The weekend series with Villanova will mark the first time the teams will meet on the diamond.


vs. The Big East
The Citadel is 17-6 all-time against current members of the Big East. The Bulldogs own six wins each over Butler and UConn. The Citadel will tavel to face Big East member Creighton on April 1-3.


Four Home Runs
The Citadel hit four home runs in the victory over Charleston Southern on Feb. 22. It marked the first time the Bulldogs hit four homers in a game since March 19, 2017 against Dartmouth.


Simpson With Two Blasts
Cole Simpson hit a pair of homers in the win over CSU. He finished the day 3-for-4 with two homers, a double and seven RBIs. He is the first Bulldog with two homers in a game since Ryan McCarthy hit two against Davidson on March 13, 2021.

Cole Simpson's seven RBIs against Charleston Southern are tied for the 6th most in program history.

Two Grand Slams in One Inning
The Bullodgs hit a pair of grand slams in the fifth inning at Charleston Southern. Travis Lott hit the first one and Cole Simpson hit the second.


Lott's Four-Hit Day
Travis Lott went 4-for-4 in the first midweek game of the season. He ended with five RBIs after a RBI single in the first and a grand slam in the fifth.


Two Players With 5 RBIs
Tuesday's win against CSU marked the first time the Bulldogs had multiple players with at least five RBIs since three players against Winthrop on March 14, 2017. Cole Simpson finished with seven RBIs and Travis Lott five.


Beckley Shines In First Start
Right hander Devin Beckley was nearly unhittable in his first start of the season as the senior allowed just one hit and struck out eight over 4.0 shutout innings.


On Deck
The Bulldogs play their first midweek home game of the season as they welcome Charleston Southern to Riley Park on March 1. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
