Bulldogs Fall in Midweek Action

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel dropped its first home midweek game of the season as the Bulldogs fell 9-5 to Charleston Southern Tuesday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs got things going in the bottom of the first inning as Dylan Costa singled up the middle and advanced to third on a wild pitch and passed ball.
  • With the bases loaded, Ryan McCarthy delivered a sacrifice fly to left field. The second run of the inning scored on a balk.
  • The Bucs tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Hayden Harris.
  • The Citadel regained the lead in the fifth inning as Wesley Lane doubled to left to start the inning. After a successful sacrifice bunt, Lane hustled home on Tilo Skole's chopper to right, just beating the tag.
  • Two batters later, McCarthy laced a RBI double over the head of the right fielder.
  • CSU got the offense going in the sixth as they pushed across five runs, highlighted by a three-run double from Peyton Basler.
  • The Bucs added two more insurance runs in the eighth on a RBI double from Tyrell Brewer and a sacrifice fly from Ajay Sczepkowski.
  • The Citadel got one run back in the bottom of the ninth as Sawyer Reeves singled into the hole at short and scored on a Lane double to left center.
