Sharnas Shatters 10K School Standard Friday at CSU

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior distance runner Sam Sharnas broke the school record in the 10,000 meters Friday to highlight The Citadel's eventful day at Charleston Southern's Throwers Distance Carnival.
 
Men's Results
  • Sam Sharnas broke the school's all-time record in the 10K with a time of 30:55.80, passing the previous record set by Austin Waldrop in 2013 with a time of 31:24.58.
  • JP Caglione took first place in the hammer throw with a toss of 185-5 (56.51m), a new personal best. He finished second in the discus with 134.11 (41.12m) and second in the shot put with 53-5.5 (16.29m) for fourth all-time.
  • Reggie Reynolds finished in third place in the hammer throw with a PR of 156-4 (47.65m) for the 10th all-time mark in school history.
  • Caleb McDonald was the top collegian in the javelin throw, with his PR throw of 152-1 (46.37m) good for third overall in the event, as Ian McCorkle, Devin Merrick, Fred Hamilton, and Stephen Kraeling took fourth through seventh spots for the Bulldogs.
  • Aidan Richer led The Citadel in the 800 meters, taking fourth overall and third among collegiate competitors with a time of 1:57.40.
Women's Results
  • Ali Ruffin finished in the second spot in the javelin with a throw of 119-10 (36.52m) for the 10th best school mark ever. Mya Dollard was the third-best collegian in the event with her PR throw of 104-1 (31.72m).
  • Tatiana Corso took fourth in the hammer throw with 103-11 (31.69m). She also finished third in the discus among collegians with a toss of 108-2 (32.97m).
  • Yanna Cuesta finished fourth overall and third among the collegians in the shot put with a PR put of 34-6.25 (10.52m), good for 10th all-time.
  • Reanna Wrecsics won the 800 meters with a time of 2:52.35. Kennedy Delancy was second with a time of 2:56.19, while Jayln rounded out the sub-3 minute finishes in third at 2:58.01.

  • The Citadel has spring break ahead to prepare for its trip to University of South Carolina in two weeks at the Weems Baskin Invitational Mar. 25-26.
