Sharlissa de Jesus named Rookie of the Year

COROZAL, PUERTO RICO – Former volleyball standout, Sharlissa de Jesus, was named Rookie of Year by the Puerto Rican Women's Senior Volleyball League (Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino).

Her professional team, Las Pinkin de Corozal, won the league championship on Saturday after defeating Criollas de Caguas. Corozal swept the six-time reigning champions in four-straight matches, without dropping a set.

In her rookie season with Las Pinkin de Corozal, de Jesus played in 24 sets, accumulating 41 kills and 23 digs.

de Jesus was selected to play for the Puerto Rican National Team in the 2022 Pan American Cup, held in Hermosillo, Mexico Aug. 19-29.

This marks the 18th championship in Pinkin de Corozal history, and the first league title in 12 years, as Corozal remains one of the premier teams in Puerto Rican volleyball.

During her time with the Bulldogs, de Jesus ranked second all-time with 182 service aces, third in digs (1,439) and fourth in digs per set (3.085). She was the second player in program history to reach 30 kills in a single match.
