CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel cross country schedule is set, featuring four regular season meets and the Bulldogs set to host the SoCon Championships on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Head coach
Jody Huddleston's squad opens up on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Charleston Southern Buccaneer Open (Men 5K, Women 4K), then the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 17 (Men 8K, Women 5K). They then head off to the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Sept. 30 (Men 8K, Women 5K), with their regular season finale aimed at the USC Upstate Invitational on Oct. 15 (Men's & Women's 5K).
The 2022 SoCon Championships will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Johns Island County Park – Mullet Hall, coming back to the Charleston area for the first time since 2011. This year's NCAA Southeast Regional returns to Louisville, Ky. On Friday, Nov. 11.
The Bulldogs return noteworthy runners on both sides, including 2021 SoCon Runner of the Week recipients
Sam Sharnas and
Heidi Fortin. Sharnas broke the school 8K record with his 24:23 time at the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 24. He was the team's leading finisher in every meet last season, including both the SoCon Championships (27:16.4) and NCAA Southeast Regionals (33:01.3). Fortin set the third-fastest 5K time in school history last season with a mark of 18:23 at the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 24 and was The Citadel's top finisher at NCAA Southeast Regionals in a time of 23:49.7.
