THE WEEK AT A GLANCE; GAMES TO BE PLAYED AT JOHNSON HAGOOD STADIUM
The Citadel kicks off its home season with two home matches against fellow Bulldogs. It begins Thursday welcoming UNC Asheville at 4 P.M., followed by Gardner-Webb Sunday at 2 P.M. The matches will be played at Johnson Hagood Stadium due to threat of inclement weather. Both will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Dave Weinstein on the call for both games and Forrest Tucker on color for Sunday.
 
THE OPENER AT NAVY
The women began their season last Thursday at Navy, coming up short in a 2-nil decision. The Mids launched one goal in each half, but not without a fight from the Bulldogs. The Citadel had chances to score that were thwarted by Navy, despite holding a 12-8 lead in shots and 9-4 on corner kicks.
 
REACH FOR THE SIKES!
Goalkeeper Brie Sikes made her first start in goal since the 2020-21 campaign at Navy, tallying three saves. The Citadel has plenty of depth between the pipes this season in Sikes, last year's starter Jess Newton, junior Shannon Curtis, and freshman Grace Laws.
 
ENTERING 2022...
The Bulldogs look to build off a 10-win 2021 season with 13 returners and 16 newcomers. The two notable returners are forward and 2022 Preseason All-SoCon selection Suzuka Yosue and goalkeeper Jess Newton, who led the league last season with a .859 save percentage. Seven of the new faces for The Citadel are graduate transfers, six from NCAA Division I programs and one from NCAA Division II.
 
YOSUE AGAIN CHOSEN PRESEASON ALL-SOCON; BULLDOGS SELECTED EIGHTH
This marks the second straight year Suzuka Yosue was chosen to the All-SoCon Preseason Team. She is a three-time All-SoCon selection, becoming the first Bulldog in school history to achieve back-to-back First Team nods in 2020 and 2021. She led the SoCon in all scoring categories in 2021 with 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists, finishing one point shy of The Citadel's season record for points. The native of Osaka, Japan currently holds the school record with 24 career assists, third with 58 career points, and tied for seventh with 17 goals. The Bulldogs were ranked eighth in the coaches preseason poll with 34 points.
 
KIRKWOOD JOINS TRAQUAIR'S STAFF
Adam Kirkwood joins The Citadel's coaching staff this fall as a graduate assistant coach. Kirkwood, a Scotland native, comes over from Young Harris College, where he graduated in 2021 with a degree in Management and Marketing. He played two seasons there after playing his first two years at LSU Shreveport, where he was a NAIA All-American.
 
NCAA ALTERS OVERTIME RULES
Beginning this season, all NCAA regular season games will have no overtime. Postseason games will have overtime, but no golden goals. Teams will play two 10-minute halves with a penalty shootout if necessary.
