Inside The Numbers
0 - Entering the 2022 season, The Citadel's quarterback room includes no players that have ever taken a collegiate snap in a Bulldog uniform. In fact, only one player in the room has ever taken a snap in a college game.
9 - The Bulldog defense returns nine starters from a season ago, including all four members of the starting secondary.
10 - The Citadel defense intercepted 10 passes during the 2021 season. The 10 inerceptions are the most since the 2018 season. Destin mack led the way with five interceptions.
511 - B-Back Logan Billings is the top returning rusher from last season after rushing for 511 yards and six touchdowns on 133 carries.
142 - Cornerback Destin Mack and had five interceptions and 142 return yards during the 2021 season. The 142 yards ranked as the third most in the FCS last season. His five interceptions were also the most by a Bulldog since Aron Span III had five in 2018.

The Game
The Citadel opens the 2022 season on the road as the Bulldogs travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina to take on Campell. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

All games this season can be heard live on 102.1-FM/1450-AM in the Charleston area. The voice of the Bulldogs, Luke Mauro, and Lee Glaze will be on the call.

Thursday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Chris Hemeyer and Peter Montemuro will be on the call.

The early forecast is calling for temperatures in the upper 80s during the day and dropping into the 70s later in the evening.


vs. Campbell
Thursday's game marks the first all-time meeting between the two teams on the gridiron. The contest is the first of a home-and-home series between the two teams.


Opening on a Thursday
The Citadel will open the season on a Thursday night for the second-straight season. It is the third time in the Brent Thompson era that the Bulldogs are opening on a Thursday night. The Citadel opened the 2021 season on a Thursday at Coastal Carolina, and the 2016 season on a Thursday at Mercer.


Opening on the Road
The 2022 opener at Campbell marks the third-straight season the Bulldogs open the year on the road. The Citadel is also scheduled to open each of the next two seasons on the road.


Opening vs. the Big South
Thursday's game marks the sixth time the Bulldogs will open the season against a current football-playing member of the Big South Conference. The Citadel is 4-1 in the previous five contests, with all five games coming against Charleston Southern.

vs. The Big South
The season opener agianst Campbell marks the 17th game all-time against a current football-playing member of the Big South. The Bulldogs are 10-6 in the previous 16 contests.


Ground Attack
The Citadel's offense rushed for 268.3 yards per game a season ago. They rushed for more than 250 yards in seven games, including a season-high 363 yards against VMI.


Return of Mack
Defensive back Destin Mack tied for the conference lead with five interceptions a season ago. His 142 return yards ranked third in the FCS. The five interceptions were the most for a Bulldog since Aron Spann III have five in 2017.


Top Tackler Returns
Defensive back Wilson Hendricks III returns after leading the Bulldogs with 69 tackles a season ago. He was the first defensive back to the lead the Bulldogs in tackles since Kailik Williams in 2016.


Defensive Depth
The Bulldog defense returns nine of 11 starters from last season, including all four members of the secondary.


Graduate Transfers
The 2022 Bulldog roster features 11 graduate transfers. The 11 transfers are the most on a Bulldog team in the Brent Thompson era.


Teammates Once Again
The Bulldog roster features a pair of players who were teammates at their previous school. Quarterback Peyton Derrick and linebacker Rett Russell were teammates at Wofford before making their way to the Lowcountry for their final collegiate season.


Overtime Wins
The Citadel has played in and won more overtime games than any other team in the FCS since 1996. The Bulldogs have played in 20 over time games, coming away victorious 11 times. The 11 wins are one more than Princeton, Richmond and Tennessee Tech.


Military Captain
Senior Linebacker Andy Davis was named the team's Military Captain for the 2022 season. Davis turned his #2 jersey in for the #0 jersey associated with the honor.

The Bulldogs play their first home game of the season as they welcome ETSU to Johnson Hagood Stadium on Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
