Tennis Prepares for a Busy Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team prepares for a busy weekend as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina, to face USC and Charlotte on Jan. 20 and then Clemson on Jan. 21 at 5:00 pm.
 
The Bulldogs picked up their first regular season win against SC State on Jan. 14. The Citadel is 1-3 overall heading into the weekend.

Bulldog Victories
The No. 1 singles player for The Citadel, Hayden Shoemake, went 4-0 on the weekend, and freshman Ted Bagwell picked up his first career singles victory.
 
Scouting USC
The Gamecocks will begin their 2023 spring season against Charlotte before taking on the Bulldogs. The Gamecocks had an overall record of 23-7 and a 10-2 SEC record during the 2022 season. South Carolina hosted the NCAA Regionals and went 2-0 against SC State and Pepperdine before falling to Virginia in the Super Regionals.
 
Scouting Charlotte
Charlotte is 1-1 to start the 2023 spring season with a victory over Texas Tech and a defeat to No. 6 Tennessee. The last match-up between both teams came in 2014, as Charlotte defeated the Bulldogs 0-7.
 
Scouting Clemson
The Tigers start the spring season 2-0 with victories over Furman and Wofford. Clemson will compete against ETSU on Jan. 21 before they compete against the Bulldogs. The last match-up between the Bulldogs and the Tigers resulted in the Bulldogs losing 0-7 at Clemson.
