CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following a back-and-forth battle throughout, The Citadel (0-7, 0-4 SoCon) faltered down the stretch against SoCon rival VMI (3-3, 2-1 SoCon) in the 79th edition of The Military Classic of the South, falling to the Keydets by a final 17-13 decision Saturday afternoon at Sansom Field at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

- The Bulldogs secured their first lead of the season late in the third quarter, as Colby Kintner drilled a 38-yard field goal to lift The Ciltadel to a 13-10 advantage with 4:57 remaining in the period.
- After surrendering the lead with 4:42 remaining in the contest, The Citadel put together a pair of threatening drives, initially turning the ball over on downs after driving to their own 46-yard line before utilizing every tick of the final 35 seconds to fight down to the Keydets 36-yard line. The game would end on a Graeson Underwood one-yard rush due to a heavy pass rush.
- For the first time this season, The Citadel produced more first downs (19-to-17) than its opponent. The Bulldogs also retained possession for longer overall, finishing with a 31:02 time of possession.
- On third down, The Citadel outperformed the Keydets as well, notching a respectable 6-of-15 (.400) while VMI finished 4-of-12 (.333). The Bulldogs defense also generated three fourth-down stops on four VMI attempts.
- For the second straight game, Underwood threw for over 100 yards, finishing 11-of-25 for 118 yards and one interception. Keydets QB Collin Ironside also posted a strong passing performance, concluding the day with 166 yards on 19-of-28 through the air.
- Underwood also led the ground game for The Citadel, collecting 57 yards and the team's lone touchdown on 14 rushes. Hi'Keem Elmore and Cooper Wallace contributed a combined 66 yards as well, earning a joint 18 carries for the game.
- For the receiving corps, Romello Jones and Patrick McSweeney composed the top two outings for the Bulldogs, as each breached the 30-yard mark individually with a combined 69 yards on five catches.
