Baseball Opening Weekend

GAME NOTES

Weekend Baseball
The Citadel opens the 2023 season Feb. 17-19 as the Bulldogs welcome Delaware State to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The season opener is set for 3 p.m.


Weekend Weather
Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s on Friday and Sunday, but only in the mid-50s on Saturday.


ESPN+
This weekend's games against Delaware State will be streamed live on ESPN+.


Ticket Information
Tickets for all home games are available on CitadelSports.com/tickets or by calling the box office at 843-953-DOGS. Tickets will also be available at the stadium box office starting one hour before first pitch.


vs. Delaware State
The Citadel and Delaware State are meeting for a three-game series for the third time. The teams previously met in 2017 and 2019 with the Bulldogs winning two-of-three each series.


Opening Against the Hornets
The opening weekend series against the Hornets marks the second time in the last five seasons the two teams will open the season at Riley Park. They opened the 2019 season in Charleston with the Bulldogs taking two-of-three.


Opening vs. the MEAC
The season-opening series against Delaware State marks the third time in the past five seasons the Bulldogs will open against a team from the MEAC. It is the second time during that span that the Hornets have been the opponent. The Citadel also hosted during North Carolina A&T during the 2021 season. The Bulldogs are 6-3 in the Tony Skole era against teams from the MEAC.


Opening the Season at Home
This season marks the 17th-straight season the Bulldogs have opened the season inside Riley Park. The Citadel is 9-7 in the season opener the previous 16 seasons.


Season Openers
The Citadel is 29-29 in season openers dating back to 1965.


Reeves Among Top Starters
Right hander Cameron Reeves was ranked as the No. 84 starting pitcher in Division I baseball by D1Baseball.com. He is the second-highest ranked pitcher in the SoCon.


Baseball in the Lowcountry
There will be plenty of baseball in the Lowcountry during the early part of the season as the Bulldogs play 21 of their first 24 games at home.


Reeves Gets the Ball on Opening Day
Right hander Cameron Reeves will get the start on the mound for the second-straight season. Last year, Reeves allowed one run and struck out eight over 8.0 innings in a win over Farleigh Dickinson.  


Weekend Rotation Returns
The Citadel returns all three starters from its weekend rotation a season ago. Cameron Reeves will continue as the Friday starter, while Ben Hutchins will pitch on Saturday and Fisher Paulsen on Sunday.


On Deck
The Bulldogs play their first midweek game of the season as they welcome Charleston Southern to Riley Park on Feb. 21 at 3 p.m.
