CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel dropped its first baseball game of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Charleston Southern inside Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

How it Happened

The Bulldogs got on the board in the second inning as Noah Mitchell sparked a two-out rally with a double to left center. Two batters later, Wells Sykes drove in Mitchell with a line-drive double through the left side.
The Bucs tied the game in the fourth inning as a leadoff hit batter came in to score on a base hit to left center by JC Agard.
CSU took the lead in the sixth inning after the leadoff batter reached on an error and came in to score on a base hit off the bat of Bryce Brock. Casey Asman drove in the second with a sacrifice fly, and the third run scored on a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs got strong pitching throughout the game, allowing just two earned runs and striking out 10.
Will Holmes made his first career start, allowing just one run on three hits and four strikeouts.
Yates Bland (0-1) suffered the loss in his collegiate debut after surrendering three runs, one earned, on two hits over 1.0 innings.
Conner Cummiskey allowed one hit and struck out two in his one inning of work.
Ethan Fewell retired all three hitters he faced, including two strikeouts.
Chace Cooper and Gant Startling also threw shutout innings.
Daniel Padysak (1-0) threw five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six, to pick up the victory.
Sawyer Reeves led the offense with a pair of hits, while Wells Sykes drove in the only run with a double.
