
Three All-Conference Honors on Day One

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – On the first day of the 2023 outdoor Southern Conference Championships, the men's and women's track and field teams achieved impressive results, earning three all-conference finishes.

Reggie Reynolds, Solomon Ghosh, and Ali Ruffin were recognized with all-conference honors for their outstanding performances.
Owen Sharnas, Sadie Grove, and Sam Barnes were selected to the All-Freshman teams.
The men recorded 26 points, and the women recorded 24 points.

On the Men's Side
- Reggie Reynolds finished second in the hammer throw with a PR toss of 165-0 to place him seventh all-time.
- Solomon Ghosh placed third overall behind Reynolds in the hammer with a PR heave of 159-02, placing him tenth all-time.
- Treonte Newton has qualified for the 400m finals tomorrow by achieving a time of 48.37 in the prelims, earning third place.
- Kane Duncan qualified for the finals by running 48.49 in the 400m prelims.
- Andrew Smith placed eighth and qualified for the 800m finals with a time of 1:52.61.
- Caleb McDonald and Briggs Rehome finished back-to-back in the javelin; McDonald finished in fourth with a toss of 165-04 and Rehome with 162-10.
- Tereis Drayton threw 139-00 in the hammer to place eighth overall.
- Mac Strunk posted a time of 11.02 in the 100m prelims to finish in ninth.
- Owen Sharnas placed tenth in the 10K with a time of 32:45.29, breaking the freshman record set in 1978.
On the Women's Side
- Ali Ruffin achieved the bronze medal in the javelin by securing the third spot with a throw of 131-02.
- Mecca Jackson secured her place in the finals by finishing first in the 100m and 200m preliminaries with impressive times of 11.73 and 24.09.
- Zeniyah Lawrence qualified for the 100m and 200m finals by finishing second in the 100m with 11.92 and seventh in the 200m with 24.78.
- Gabby Shea earned a spot in the 800m finals by running a qualifying time of 2:15.85, earning her eighth.
- Tatiana Corso placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 154-00.
- Blythe Hehmeyer secured the fourth position by clearing 11-10.00 in the pole vault.
- Heidi Fortin ran a time of 37:35. 23 in the 10K to finish in sixth.
- Sadie Grove and Sam Barnes placed sixth and eighth in the javelin. Grove threw 115-08, and Barnes threw 99-07.
- Cyla Byrd achieved a ninth-place finish in the 100m and 200m preliminaries, clocking in at 12.22 and 24.91.
