HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Citadel was awarded the D.S. McAlister Sportsmanship Award at the 2023 Southern Conference Annual Spring meetings at Sonesta Resort on Thursday afternoon.
 
The D.S. McAlister Award is presented annually to the school, judged by the league's administrators and head coaches to exhibit the highest degree of sportsmanship.
 
Inaugurated in 1980, The award is honored by Col. D.S. McAlister of The Citadel, who served as Southern Conference secretary-treasurer for 38 years. It marks the fifth time The Citadel has earned the award (1982-83, 1983-84, 2007-08, 2021-22, and 2022-23) and marks the second straight season.
