CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team jumped out to a 24-12 lead halfway through the first half and held off a second half run from the Stetson University Hatters to win 74-52 on Monday evening.
The Hatters, a 2024 NCAA Tournament team from a season ago, cut the Bulldogs' 12-point halftime advantage to four, 40-36, early in the second half but The Citadel answered with a 13-4 spurt to extend the margin back to double digits.
First Half:
- Keynan Davis hit three 3-pointers in the first 4:15 of play to give The Citadel an early 18-9 edge.
- Brody Fox's layup at the 9:55 mark doubled up Stetson 24-12.
- Christian Moore's bucket and-1 gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the half, 32-18, before The Citadel went into the locker room ahead 34-22.
Second Half:
- Stetson came out of the half on a 14-6 run to cut the deficit to four, 40-36, at the under-16 timeout.
- The Citadel answered with a Paxton Davidson 3-pointer before Davis and Fox each hit from beyond the arc to stretch the margin back to double-digits, 53-40.
- The Hatters could never get the deficit back to single digits with Cam Glover's late 3-pointer capping off a 74-52 victory.
