Box Score 2 KNOXVILLE, TENN. - The Citadel men's tennis team squared off with the #5 University of Tennessee for a pair of matches on Monday, falling 0-7 and 1-6 in a doubleheader to the Volunteers.
MATCH ONE: Â #5 TENNESSEE 7, THE CITADEL 0
- The Vols swept the doubles matches with the closest match coming at 3-doubles where Lucas Robins and Noah Van Dyke lost 5-7.
- Hayden Shoemake fell to the #7 ranked ITA singles player by identical 2-6, 2-6 scores.
- Van Dyke had the singles match of the day for The Citadel, rebounding from a first-set loss to take the second set, 6-4, and force a super tiebreaker. Unfortunately, his opponent at 4-singles answered to win the super tiebreaker 10-6.
MATCH TWO: Â #5 TENNESSEE 7, THE CITADEL 0
- Teo Cariov and Ted Bagwell won their 2-doubles match 6-4 but the Vols won the other two matches to take the point.
- Shoemake dropped the first set in an extended tiebreak, 6-7 (11-13) but rallied to cruise past his opponent 6-1 in set two. This time he would win the third set super tiebreaker 10-8 to earn the Bulldogs lone point of the match.
- Sebastian Kamieniecki fell to the #7 ranked singles player Johannus Monday, who dropped down to 2-singles in the second match, 0-6, 2-6.
- Cariov would face off with another ranked ITA singles player, #27 Lamlami, at 3-singles, falling in straight sets, 2-6, 4-6.
