- The Citadel scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first, thanks to a throwing error by Samford, which scored Anthony Hausner and Wells Sykes.
- Travis Lott was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Landon Kahl to make it 3-0.
- Anthony Hausner hit an RBI single to left center that scored Travis Elliott, making it 4-0.
- Samford recorded three runs in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run and an RBI double to make it 4-3.
