Sykes Collects Three Hits in Series Finale Against Samford

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Wells Sykes recorded a three-hit day in the series finale in a 12-4 loss against Samford on Sunday afternoon inside Joe Riley Park.

How It Happened
  • The Citadel scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first, thanks to a throwing error by Samford, which scored Anthony Hausner and Wells Sykes.
  • Travis Lott was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Landon Kahl to make it 3-0.
  • Anthony Hausner hit an RBI single to left center that scored Travis Elliott, making it 4-0.
  • Samford recorded three runs in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run and an RBI double to make it 4-3.
  • Garrett Staton recorded a sacrifice fly RBI in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.
  • Samford scored two in the top of the sixth inning and then added six more in the top of the eighth, making it 12-4.
