CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball head coach Russell Triplett announced the addition of James Reeves '15 as the first assistant hire to his new staff, slotting the southpaw standout as the pitching coach for the Bulldogs.

"We are thrilled to have James back," Triplett said. "He brings incredible energy daily and has a deep passion for this place. He's a proven winner. I anticipate his immediate impact on our pitching staff."

During his time as a Bulldog, Reeves secured 20 wins and had a career ERA of 3.88 with 227 strikeouts. During the 2015 season, he was named the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger Player of the Week twice. Reeves was also named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year and selected for the Southern Conference First Team by the Coaches and the SoCon Sports Media Association.

After authoring a stellar career as a Bulldog, Reeves was selected in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Yankees. Reeves climbed as high as AAA in the Yankees affiliation and the San Diego Padres organization. Throughout his six-year professional career, Reeves recorded 23 wins in 177 appearances. He recorded an ERA of 2.80 on 344.1 innings pitched with 425 strikeouts.

"It is an honor to accept the pitching coach job at The Citadel," Reeves said. "The Citadel Baseball Program has meant a great deal to me, not only as a player but also as a person. During my time here, I had some special moments in my playing career and made lifelong friends I consider family. I can't express how excited I am to use my experience to work with this group of guys, and I am grateful to Coach Triplett for giving me this opportunity to coach at my alma mater."

Reeves retired in 2023 and served as the pitching coach for Oceanside Academy under head coach Britt Reames, Class of '96, and Hall of Fame inductee in 2008.

Reeves earned his bachelor's degree in Pre-Law for the Citadel in 2015.
