The Citadel Officially Releases 2025 Football Schedule, Season Ticket Deposits on Sale

1/30/2025 1:00:00 PM

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Citadel football program announced the program's 2025 schedule Thursday afternoon, compiling a formidable four-game non-conference lineup along with the usual eight-contest Southern Conference slate. The Bulldogs host a season-opening collision against reigning FCS National Champion North Dakota State on Aug. 30 before immediately shifting focus to SoCon competition on Sept. 6, heading west to battle Samford in Birmingham, Ala.

Along with the campaign kickoff against the Bison, The Citadel sharpens the axe for league play with another pair of early non-conference matchups, initially squaring off with Gardner-Webb in a North-South Carolina clash on Sept. 13 before hosting Division II National Runner-Up Valdosta State on Oct. 11 in the program's annual Military Appreciation game. The Bulldogs wrap up their non-conference slate in early November, trekking back west for a clash with SEC powerhouse Ole Miss on Nov. 8.

"After putting together a competitive season last year, we're eager to challenge these young men yet again by asking them to build on last year's gains as opposed to becoming complacent with their successes," head coach Maurice Drayton said. "This year we will face one of the toughest schedules in the country as we take on the reigning FCS National Champion, the Division II Runner-Up, a major contender within the SEC and strong competitors from the SoCon. Every week competing within this schedule gives an opportunity to perform a closer analysis of our program. You get to hone in on exactly where you are as a program, and, based on where we are, we use that data to devise plans to better our skill sets, strengthen the knowledge base of the game and ultimately forge plans to keep us moving forward in the right direction.

"Last year, we were able to point the ship in the right direction, we made huge strides from year one to year two. With the slate we have lined up for us this season, we don't have room for complacency with last year's growth. It is paramount that we take hold of every opportunity to build on this strong foundation and push the pendulum toward greatness every time we take the field of play."

After launching the Southern Conference schedule on Sept. 6 at Samford, The Citadel returns to the friendly confines of Johnson Hagood Stadium to challenge defending league champion Mercer on Sept. 20 for Parents' Weekend before wrapping up the month at Chattanooga on Sept. 27. Following the bye week to open October along with Valdosta State on Oct. 11, the Bulldogs dive into the heart of SoCon play across the next three weeks, initially hosting Western Carolina for Leaders in Philanthropy on Oct. 18 before scratching the rivalry itch with a road clash at Upstate adversary Furman on Oct. 25 followed by the 81st edition of the Military Classic of the South against VMI on Nov. 1.

The Citadel appropriately closes out the program's home slate with a Homecoming dogfight against in-state rival Wofford on Nov. 15 before officially concluding the campaign on the road at ETSU on Nov. 22.
