AUBURN, Ala. – The Citadel men's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2025 Battle on the Plains, hosted by Auburn University, with a weekend full of competitive matches against a deep field that featured programs from across the Southeast.
The Bulldogs were represented by the pairs of Reece Beckendorf and Brady Gober, along with Nick Stroumpis and Graham Hardin. Both duos showed improvement and resilience throughout the three-day tournament, earning key wins in both singles and doubles play.
Beckendorf and Gober notched one of the team's top results of the weekend, earning a decisive 6–1 doubles victory over Arkansas State's Matteo Lataste and Martin Catrice. In singles, Gober carried that momentum into multiple matches, highlighted by a three-set win over North Alabama's Whit Davis (4–6, 6–2, 6–2) and a straight-sets victory against Lipscomb's Hartmut Fiedler (6–4, 6–3). Beckendorf also battled in several competitive contests, including a narrow three-set loss to Lipscomb's Alexander Vlahos (6–3, 5–7, 6–2).
Stroumpis and Hardin also made their mark in the Orange Draw, picking up a 6–2 doubles win over Lipscomb's Vlahos and Fiedler after facing a tough opening round against Louisiana. In singles play, Stroumpis earned a 7–6 (3), 6–1 win over Vlahos, while Hardin pushed UAB's Kaustubh Holcomb to a third-set tiebreak before falling just short (4–6, 6–1, 7–6(6)).
The Battle on the Plains featured competition from several strong programs, including Memphis, Louisiana, Troy, UAB, Lipscomb, and North Alabama. The weekend provided valuable early-season match experience for the Bulldogs as they continue to build doubles chemistry and refine individual match play heading into the spring dual season.
The Citadel will return to action later this month with continued fall tournament competition.
