The Citadel Falls at No. 6 Ole Miss in Non-Conference Finale, 49-0

OXFORD, Miss. -- Against the backdrop of a sellout crowd of 67,326, The Citadel (4-6, 3-3 SoCon) struggled to establish any traction throughout the program's non-conference season finale at No. 6/7 Ole Miss (9-1, 5-1 SoCon), faltering to the highly-touted Rebels via a 49-0 decision Saturday afternoon at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

KEY NOTES
-- Offensively, The Citadel racked up just 106 yards on 50 plays, topping the Rebels in time-of-possession by a final 32:04-to-27:56 margin
-- Under center, Quentin Hayes paced the usual one-two punch at QB with 35 rushing yards on 12 carries; Cobey Thompkins added 23 yards through the air on a 3-of-6 day passing
-- For the running back corps, Beau Herrington finished led the way with 53 yards on the ground behind just seven carries, notably breaking off a 41-yard gash early in the third quarter
-- Defensively, Temarcus Elam set the tone with a team-best 10 tackles, including eight unassisted; Darryle Ware and J'hari Mosley contributed seven apiece as well while Mikey Rosa logged a grand total six
-- Notably, the Bulldogs managed to win the game's turnover battle in memorable fashion, as Rosa served as the beneficiary of a Jeremiah Holmes tipped pass at the line-of-scrimmage before bolting down the left sideline for a 32-yard return to deep inside Ole Miss territory; ever the ball hawk, Rosa even logged a forced fumble later in the same quarter, punching out the ball near the sideline before watching fellow Elam fail to recover inbounds as he slid in to secure the potential turnover
-- James Platte compiled a solid day at punter, per the usual, launching seven kicks for an average 44.9 yards per attempt with one pinning the Rebels inside their own 20-yard line
