CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel fell in its final home match inside McAlister Field House in three sets (16-25, 17-25, 16-25) against UNCG on Saturday afternoon.
Rachel Reininger and
Jordyn Sims both lead The Citadel with nine kills each.
Gwen Berry is third on the team with seven kills.
Mia Watson led the Bulldogs with 17 assists, and
Lydia Larson posted 13 assists.
Jess Martin recorded a match-high 20 digs.
McKenna Timmerman led the Spartans with 12 kills.
Set 1
The Citadel took an early 5-3 lead over the Spartans due to an attack error from UNCG. The Spartans tied the set at 8-8 with a kill. A 9-1 run by UNCG extended their lead to 17-11. A service error from UNCG and a service ace from Larson narrowed the gap to four at 18-14. UNCG then pulled ahead for the rest of the set, concluding with a 4-0 run that ended it at 25-16.
Set 2
The Spartans led by two points over the Bulldogs at 7-5, but kills from Sims and Reininger tied the set at 7-7. UNCG responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead at 12-7. The Spartans' lead grew to seven after two attack errors from the Bulldogs, and a kill for the Spartans made it 17-10. Late kills from

Luci Lippelgoos, and Berry weren't enough as the Spartans took the second set 25-17.
Set 3
A 3-0 rally sparked by a kill from Sims gave The Citadel an early 8-6 lead in the second set. UNCG responded with a 4-0 rally to take the lead at 11-9. The Citadel narrowed the gap to 12-11 with a kill from Reininger, but another 4-0 rally by the Spartans extended their lead to 16-11. A kill from Freeman and an attack error from UNCG cut the deficit to three at 16-13. A late 5-0 rally from UNCG extended their lead to 21-13 and ultimately allowed the Spartans to win the set at 25-16.
